Imagine Beauty and the Beast directed by Tim Burton, and you’ll have something approaching this dark musical puppet show.
Something new is arriving on the London theatre scene, something quite unlike you’ve ever seen before. The Grinning Man is a wonderfully weird mix of puppets, fairground freaks… and catchy musical numbers. Having received rave reviews and standing ovations from its run at Bristol Old Vic, the production is now taking up residence in the West End.
Given that this puppet show is the lovechild of Victor Hugo and the team behind War Horse, it will certainly be a sight to see, and tickets are now on sale.
Based on a Victor Hugo novel, The Grinning Man follows the tale of Grinpayne, the circus act with the hideous jagged smile. And the story he tells is a curious one. During the telling, queens, evil clowns, fools, and wolves will come crawling out of the woodwork, all drawn to the man with the crooked smile. Rousing musical numbers mix with puppetry from the original War Horse puppeteers. All in all, it certainly is a sight to see!
Critics have called it “a dark delight“, “wonderfully weird“, with “the best British score in years“. With testaments like that, you know you won’t want to miss out on this unique theatrical experience!
The Grinning Man is arriving in town on December 6th, and Fever have got tickets for dates throughout the run.
Tickets start from just £15, and best of all, they come without strings attached! Get it? Because it’s got puppets…
