Paying a visit to the gorgeous Kew Gardens has become an institutional part of London life. There’s an incredible, forever-changing line-up of events and activities, but this unique sky-high trail is certainly up there (quite literally) with the best things to do within their enchanting gardens and grounds.
The Treetop Walkway is an impressive eighteen-metre-tall walkable structure that dwindles its way through the diverse forestland at Kew Gardens.
Take in spectacular views of the grounds as you get up close and personal with Kew’s impressive collection of trees, boasting sweet chestnut, beech, horse chestnut and different oak species that stand tall throughout this incredible (yet slightly terrifying) canopy.
Made with over 400 tonnes of weathered steel, the towering columns hold up this amazing trail with the rusted materials designed to blend in with its surrounding environment. It truly must be seen to be believed, with its striking design and unique viewing points of nature’s finest wonders.
Expect to catch glimpses of local wildlife, as this hidden microcosm of London’s natural world features the most epic way to witness the elegant beauty that exuberates from nature. The garden is famed for being teemed with birds and insects, as well as lichen and fungi on the forest floor.
Try to spot a bird or two, before heading back to the ground to learn more about the trees and the animals that call London home. There are even sculptures carved from the trunks to illustrate different microscopic elements of the trees, explaining how they grow and thrive in such a concrete-heavy city.
Beyond the Treetop Walkway, there are so many fantastic things to do in Kew Gardens. From mind-bending, seasonal displays to gorgeous art exhibitions, if you’ve yet to visit Kew then this is your sign to do so! Be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
