May we be blessed with sunny evenings, scorching bank holidays, and all the beer gardens a Londoner can handle this month. The reality might end up slightly different, but we’re crossing our fingers that May will be the start of a summer to remember. It’s going to be a biiiiig month as we (hopefully) shake off the last of the unpredictable spring weather and welcome some sunny, warm days.
So, without further ado, here are the best things to do in London this May:

May is when festival season really kicks into gear. Check out these music festivals in London this May:
- GALA Festival (May 22 – 24)
- Field Day (May 23)

Step back in time and explore the world of Ancient Egypt at the ‘Ramses and the Pharaohs’ Gold’ exhibition. This fascinating experience features “boasts the largest collection of Ramses II items to have ever left Egypt, including the coffin of Ramses II himself and the golden mask of King Amenemope”. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s even received a unique stamp of approval from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Did you know, thanks to 2 bank holidays this May, you could turn just 8 days of annual leave into a whopping 20 days off work? That’s right, with some careful planning, you could maximise your time off and only work for a third of the month! That leaves plenty of time for springtime trips, escapes, or just pure relaxation.
So, what will you get up to over the bank holiday(s) this May?
See London come to life with colourful blooms

As spring wraps London in its embrace, the city teems with life as flowers bloom on every corner. Wander around the city, and you’ll find all manner of colourful floral sights and gorgeous blooms. Check out our London flower guide for where and when to see the best flowering displays. Keep an eye out in particular for:
Marvel at London’s largest free flower festival

Over in Chelsea, each May, you can find some of the most jaw-dropping floral displays in the city. For a limited time each year, London’s largest free flower festival, Chelsea in Bloom, fills the area with stunning floral art.
The free festival sees the area’s shops, restaurants, pubs, hotels, walkways, and public spaces done up with blooms. This year’s festival is themed around ‘out of this world’ displays, which will transform Chelsea “into an intergalactic wonderland of floral displays inspired by space travel, astrology and spiritual symbolism.”

‘Banksy Limitless: Reframed’ takes some of the most iconic pieces of art from the infamous street artist off the street and presents them in whole new ways. This limited-time exhibition brings “street art into a gallery setting” with 250 works that range across certified originals, one-of-a-kind pieces, and exclusive reproductions. Don’t miss the special Immersive Room and Dismaland presentations.
Dine in a fairytale setting

This May, a truly special dining experience will transport diners to a woodland restaurant – plucked straight from the pages of a storybook. The Wild Table is “a collaborative woodland restaurant created by The Laundry Brixton and Browning Bros”. And it might just be one of the most unique dining experiences around.
Taking over a stunning setting at Tey Brook Orchard, just outside of London, the meal features open-fire cooking that celebrates seasonal ingredients – many grown nearby and sourced for the meal. This all takes place in a truly picturesque setting beneath the trees. When it’s over, the experience can be extended with a stay in the estate’s luxury glamping accommodation.

Celebrate the arrival of al fresco dining and drinking

Los Mochis is commemorating the arrival of outdoor events by kicking off al fresco season with a long Bank Holiday-spanning party, across their Notting Hill terrace and London City rooftop. Head on over to enjoy “DJs, terrace brunch, agave-led cocktails and Cinco de Mayo celebrations, set against two of London’s most sought-after outdoor spaces.”
