Back when we were kids, Halloween was a doddle – outfits were easy (thanks mum/Woolworth’s) and plans were uncomplicated (and tended to revolve around rinsing the neighbourhood of sweets). But now that we’re old haunts of our former selves, deciding what to do and wear can be a nightmare. So, whether you’re planning on getting hallow-asted or would rather sit back and watch others dig their own grave, we’ve picked out a selection of London’s most terrifyingly brilliant parties.
1. For House and Techno Ghouls: Krankbrother presents The Apocalypse
[Krankbrother]Don’t worry, it’s only the end of the world. Well, it certainly might be if you’re a lover of all things house/techno and aren’t making your way to Southbank the Friday of Halloween. With a deadly line-up, including sets from Magda, Paul Woolford, Robag Wruhme and Tom Demac, at least your last night will end with a bang (and some pretty sweet sounds).
30th October, 1 Invicta Plaza, London, SE1 9UF
2. For Single Blood-Suckers: Forge’s Halloween Match Maker
[Forge]Although it’s not usually something you associate with romance, perhaps this Halloween you’ll be swept off your feet/tentacles/broomstick. Forge nightclub is teaming up with SpeedDater to bring together some spooky singletons. Fate may well pull together with the vampire of your dreams. Talk about blood lust.
[Design My Night]At this hybrid Halloween event, werewolves can munch on their weiner schnitzel, while Frankenstein can enjoy his first taste of German stein. Expect the walking dead to snap on their lederhosen, get to the dance floor and Schuhplattler (dance) along to a live German folk band. A night of spooky Oktoberfest fun!
5pm 31st October, Bavarian Beerhouse, Old Street EC1V 2QH
4. For Vintage Vampires: Mrs Peel’s Halloween Happening
[Facebook]Head to the exclusive Eight Club for a night that will drag the Swinging Sixties back from the dead. Indulge yourself in a night of vintage fun, cocktails and live music to get your spooky groove on. So snap on that catsuit, flick that eyeliner and get psychedelic.
5. For You Sensual Creatures: Madame Noir’s Halloween Bal Noir Vol. 4.
[Nude Noir]Madame Noir is bringing ghoulish glamour and a touch of eroticism to the GOAT in Chelsea this All Hallow’s Eve. As with all of Madame Noir’s events, the night itself is enveloped in mystery, but one should expect an evening of sensual experiences, corsets and drama. Allow yourself to be seduced. For more information and table reservations, email madamenoirenchante@gmail.com.
9pm 31st October, GOAT, 333 Fulham Rd, SW10 9QL
6. For Skull-Loving Skeletons: Dia De Los Muertos Present Day of the Dead
[Time Out]For a more traditional Mexican celebration, the Day of the Dead (not to be confused with your hangovers) comes to Hackney. Embrace the chance to put some elaborate slap on your face and dance the night away with fellow skeletons.
