This Halloween, Kraken Rum is opening a uniquely immersive horror bar, where the price of the drinks is determined by visitors’ heart rates.
That’s right, Screamfest VII: Shock Exchange will require guests to wear a heart-rate monitor whilst navigating their way through an ‘immersive gauntlet or relentless horror’ in order to reach the bar. Sounds delightful, right?
The pre-bar experience has been developed by Kraken, with input from The Recreational Fear Lab and has been scientifically designed with just one aim in mind: to get those hearts racing. It’s certainly not for the faint fast-hearted, as the more a guests heart pounds; the more pounds the pay at the bar. It’s as simple as that.
Taking place in the (already pretty spooky-sounding) Clerkenwell Catacombs, visitors will descend into the darkness and find themselves in this truly terrifying underground experience. The bar itself is – quite literally – the light at the end of the tunnel. Once guests have made it through the ghastly gauntlet, they’ll discover just how resilient they are to fear. Those with lower BPM’s will be rewarded for their bravery, whilst those with higher heart rates will have to pay for their fear.
Scaredy-cats of the capital city (AKA me) thankfully won’t need to take out a bank loan for the experience, though. A cocktail is already included in the ticket price, and although subsequent drinks will be based on heart-rates; nobody will have to pay more than £7 for their drink regardless. Phew.
Billed as heart-thumpingly frightening, the Shock Exchange will feature more scares per minute than even the very best horror movies, so you can guarantee yourself a spook-tacular evening.
Round up your pals this Halloween and get yourself down to this fa-boo-lous event. After all, ghouls just wanna have fun.
Mathias Clasen from The Recreational Fear Lab said: “An increase in heart rate is among the most well-known physiological indicators of fear and research has identified a range of stimuli that reliably induces fear in the average person. It is this knowledge that hosts of Screamfest VII have used in an event designed to heighten fear, and, by extension, heart rate. Hearts don’t lie, even in the presence of masking smiles.”
Screamfest VII: Shock Exchange will take place at The Clerkenwell Catacombs, from October 26 – October 28. Tickets cost £10 and include a cocktail. Book your tickets here.
