As August and the summer weather slowly come to a close, we’re turning our eyes to September, and all that’s in store for us in London. But fret not – the summer isn’t quite over yet. After all, it’s not officially autumn until late September!
You don’t quite need to head inside to make buckets of hot chocolate just yet. And while we can probably expect the temperatures to drop, there are still a few summery days in store. Regardless of the weather, with everything going on, there’ll be no pleas to ‘wake me up when September ends’. Here’s our rundown of simply smashing things to do in London this September.
End summer with a bang at the last few festivals
While festival season pretty much draws to a close in August, there are still a few events to enjoy in the city if you love live music. Check out the following festivals to wring the most out of 2026’s summer of fests:
🎶 Waterworks Extended (September 12-13): the cancelled festival will instead take the form of a massive 36-hour-long party at The Cause.
🎵 HowTheLightGetsIn London 2026 (September 19-20): the world’s largest philosophy & music festival.
Cekebrasia returns this September with an enormous celebration of South East Asia. The FREE-to-visit culture and food festival features a huge range of vendors, attractions, live performances, and activations that celebrate the incredible diversity of food, culture, and creativity across the 11 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) member countries.
Visitors can expect to find over 35 food and drink vendors, an artisan market with more than 50 traders, live music, craft workshops, cooking classes, and more.
Have a ball at Bubble Planet
Bubble Planet is a wild and wonderful immersive experience that surrounds visitors with a seemingly never-ending world (planet?) of bubbles. As you make your way through themed rooms, you’ll explore fantastical landscapes and even step aboard a hot air balloon flight simulator. It’s a feast for the senses, and a true joy to experience
Celebrate Black culture and creativity
Black on the Square is a FREE annual event in London’s Trafalgar Square that celebrates and highlights Black culture and creativity. It’s a chance to acknowledge and celebrate “the people and communities who contribute to the capital’s creativity”. All are welcome to enjoy the food, entertainment, workshops, activities, stalls, and more.

Meatopia is a love letter to BBQ, where hungry Londoners can feast on meat to their heart’s content. Going strong since 2013, when it crossed the pond from New York, where the festival was founded, Meatopia offers up 4 days of delicious food from “some of the very best live-fire chefs from UK, Europe and the World”.

The Bayeux Tapestry will return to the UK for the first time in almost 1000 years this September. It’s part of what is expected to be the British Museum’s most popular exhibition ever.
The Bayeux Tapestry is an elaborately embroidered cloth, telling the tale of the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings. Spanning a whopping 70 metres, it will find a temporary home at the British Museum, courtesy of a loan agreement made with the Bayeux Museum in Normandy.
Timewalk is a stunning new exhibition where visitors can journey through centuries of human history and discover 4,000-year-old civilisations lost to time. The Timewalk Exhibition is a gateway to ancient paradisical cities, jungle-wrapped ruins and star-piercing pyramids. Across multiple immersive rooms, the stories of civilisations such as Babylon and Maya are brought to life through spellbinding visuals, atmospheric soundscapes, and interactive elements.
Explore the ocean at SEA LIFE Aquarium
Head deep into the mysterious waters of the ocean at SEA LIFE Aquarium, where you can discover hundreds of marine species across 14 immersive zones. You can walk next to sharks and jellyfish and pop your head into domes that make you feel surrounded by a magical underwater world. While you’re there, you can also learn about the conservation efforts to ensure the ocean’s majestic creatures continue to thrive.
Journey through the kingdom of Far Far Away
Calling all lovers of fairy tales and the Shrek cinematic universe, be sure to check out Shrek’s Adventure for a fun-filled day out. You’ll embark on a journey through the kingdom of Far Far Away to find Shrek, interacting with the characters from the movies as you explore. Along the way, you can expect hands-on activities, interactive scenes, and plenty of songs from the iconic soundtrack.

Explore the V&A East after dark
The V&A East is throwing its doors open late into the night every week throughout September. Each Thursday, until the end of the month, they’ll be hosting late-night sessions with “DJ residencies, pop-up bars, after-hours exhibition access and sweeping city views from its top-floor terrace”. Central to it all is a free series of rotating DJ residencies that have been inspired by the museum’s The Music is Black: A British Story exhibition. You can explore the museum, boogieing all the while, all the way through to 10pm each Thursday.
The House of Dreamers is a new immersive exhibition in London, where visitors are invited to explore their dreams. One moment, you’re floating in an enormous vibrant pink ball pit; the next, you’re walking past glowing toadstools and giant daisies to discover a light-projected waterfall. The experience encompasses 16 installations, each with a special motivational message, encouraging guests to embrace the joy of wonder.
The London Podcast Festival returns to the city for its 11th year this September, and they’re bringing some of the world’s greatest podcasters along for the celebration. The festival will take over Kings Place with 11 days of events, podcasting, and activations. Everywhere you go, someone will be making a podcast, talking about podcasts, or listening to (live) podcasts!
Step into the games at an immersive new arcade
An enormous new immersive arcade is coming to London’s South Bank this September. Arcade Arena will bring together 3 “blockbuster experiences” in one place, allowing players to step into the worlds of the PAC-MAN Live Experience, Chaos Karts, and Alien Invasion. You’re not just playing the games when you visit; you’re in the game!

The Big London Tattoo Show returns for its 5th iteration this September – and it’s bigger than ever before. Shuck and slurp your way through The London Oyster Championships
The London Oyster Championships return this September for its 4th year running, with even more shucking good competition. The country’s leading chefs, oyster shuckers, and seafood enthusiasts will come together to compete for the top spot in the Speed Shucking Oyster Open and Best Dressed Oyster competition.

Attend Europe’s Largest Pumpkin Festival
Tulleys Farm is bringing back its Pumpkin Festival – the largest in Europe – this September, and it’s going to be even bigger than before. More than 100 acres of West Sussex countryside will be transformed into an autumnal celebration with over 1.5 million pumpkins and gourds and 100+ pumpkin varieties.
This year’s festival will also feature the debut of the brand-new Pumpkin Valley. This is a brand-new attraction with wooden bridges, gentle streams, and peaceful ponds. Within The Pumpkin Valley, guests will find “giant pumpkin sculptures, the charming Pumpkin Farm House and a picturesque Hobbit House, all surrounded by vibrant pumpkins and blooming chrysanthemums.”

Plenty of London’s venues are getting in on the Negroni Week celebrations this September, with all manner of special serves, collaborations, and more. Sip your way through these exciting Negronis throughout the week:
🍸 ROKA Charlotte Street Shochu Lounge is partnering with Peddlers Gin and Karminia Vermouth on a bespoke menu of three Japanese-inspired takes on the Negroni.
🍹 Rosina’s Thorn Bar will serve a special menu of 5 variations on the Negroni, including a Cherry Sour Negroni, an Amalfi Shaken Negroni, and a White Negroni.
🍸 Sale e Pepe Knightsbridge and Sale e Pepe Mare will both be serving a menu of 5 Negronis, each “inspired by the flavours and stories of different regions across Italy.”
🍹 Not content with a week, the House of Negroni will take over Brooklands Bar for the whole month of September with a range of Negronis and Negroni-inspired drinks.
🍸 Equal Parts is also extending the celebration, with a month-long series of Negroni serves and bar takeovers from Auguste and Bar Mauro. Additionally, they’re donating £1 from every Negroni sold to Hackney Foodbank.
The legendary Blue Note jazz club is winging its way across the Atlantic from New York to open its first UK location. And naturally, it’s opening right here in London – where else? Coinciding with the club’s 100th birthday, the new venue will open in Covent Garden, with the likes of Yussef Dayes, Jamie Cullum, Nik West, Erykah Badu, Hak Baker, and more slated to perform.
The Ultimate Sevens Grand Final will hit London this September with a thrilling climax to the tournament. Despite the name, Oktoberfest traditionally starts in September, not October. Instead, the weeks-long celebration ends in October. Regardless, it’s a spirited celebration of great beer, great food, and great (depending on who you ask) brass bands.
