London has pretty strong bragging rights when it comes to our culinary offerings, but one of the most impressive is being home to the best food market in the world. Of course, the market in question is Borough Market.
Just to flex how truly fabulous the market is, it’s opening it’s door after-hours once again to celebrate fire cooking, also known as the beloved barbecue. This comes after the success of the evening of fish hosted back in May and the hugely popular cheese evening hosted during the festive season.
Evening of fire cooking
Here in the UK, when we think of barbecuing, it might conjure up images of Dad’s burning sausages, but that’s exactly what the people at Borough Market want to change.
Bethan Davies, Head of Communications and Marketing at the market, says that this evening will “[show] just how exciting, skilful and versatile cooking over fire can be. Our traders draw on traditions from around the world to create bold flavours and make exceptional produce sing. This is barbecue, Borough Market style.”
The evening, aptly named Flame & Smoke, will take place on 10 September between 6:30-9:30pm. During the evening, Londoners will be able to feast on specially created small plates and see live demonstrations over the central fire pit.
Proceedings will be hosted by Shauna Guinn of Hang Fire BBQ, who helped introduce American barbecue to UK audiences.
Borough Market’s street food traders and restaurants will be getting involved and you’ll be able to sample cuisines from Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Mediterranean and beyond. There will also be DJs throughout the evening so it’s sure to be a lively one.
Tickets go on sale from 11 August for Friends of Borough Market, which is a free-to-join Borough Market community, with general sale from 17 August. Entry will set you back £7.
