Now, before you all come for me in the comments, I am sorry. I know it’s not even Halloween yet. It’s still only early days in October. But it’s unavoidable; Christmas is coming, folks. So the time has come for us to start preparing for the city’s annual display of glimmering Christmas lights, which will begin to take over the city in less than a month!
In anticipation of the festive season arriving in London, I’ve put together a guide to when and where you can see the city’s charming Christmas light displays.
When is the best time to see London’s Christmas lights?
While this is a bit of a boring answer, the best time to see the lights is in early December.
Some displays don’t illuminate until late November or even early December. So if you don’t visit London often, but you want to see ALL of the Christmas lights, December is the best time to visit. However, most of the displays will be lit up by late November, so if you come around that time, there’s still plenty to see.
Oxford Street

Oxford Street always leads the charge in London, with one of the earliest switch-on dates in the city. It’s also one of the most popular Christmas sights in town. And it’s sure to be even more popular than usual this year, with the announcement of a special Harry Potter-themed display. Alongside the iconic stars, the display will feature designs that “bring the world of Harry Potter to life.”
Based on the partnership and the impending opening of the Oxford Street Harry Potter store, I’m predicting the Christmas lights will switch on from November 4.

Carnaby Street always keeps things fresh and exciting at Christmastime, with a brand-new display of Christmas lights each year. This year, they’re inviting everyone to “join [them] from November 2026 for more festive magic, iconic lights and world-class gifting.” This year’s display will be “inspired by the feel-good nostalgia of the 90s” and will fill the area with cheer from November 4.

Kew Gardens’ iconic Christmas light trail, Christmas at Kew, will return on November 13, running on select dates through to January 3, 2027. It’s one of the most breathtaking light displays in the city, and attracts guests from all around the world. Oh, and tickets are already on sale!
Regent Street

Every year, Regent Street is home to one of London’s most iconic Christmas light displays. The sparkling Christmas angels line the street, hanging from the sky, with a glimmering display. Last year marked the 10th anniversary of the ‘Spirit of Christmas’ display, and I’m predicting it will return this year during the week of November 2-8.
West End Christmas Lights

The West End loves a bit of glamour, glitz, and bright lights. So naturally, each year, they’re among the first to get into the Christmas spirit. The area-spanning lights are a relative newcomer to the scene, having first turned on just three years ago, but they’ve become fast favourites. I’m expecting they’ll turn on shortly after the Oxford Street lights, around November 4.

In 2025, Knightsbridge unveiled a brand new Christmas lights display, inspired by the area’s history and the grand architecture of its iconic buildings. They’re bringing back the impressive display for 2026, transforming the area with an equestrian-themed Christmas display. You can see the lights illuminating the area from November 10 onwards.
Marylebone Village Christmas Lights

Marylebone Village goes all out for their lights switch-on each year, with a big ol’ event on the day. They’ll also host all manner of activations throughout the area during the festive period, making it a can’t-miss spot to visit. This year, the lights will shine down over the area from November 11.
On the evening, the area will be transformed into a fun-filled winter wonderland. They’ll have “curated stalls, festive food and drink, family entertainment, and a spectacular 55-foot Ferris wheel.” Head on down for some proper festive fun!
Strand Christmas Lights

The Strand’s charming Christmas lights draw inspiration from the theatrical history of the iconic Savoy Theatre, and I’m hoping they’ll return for 2026. Shining down over the Strand and Villiers Street, the display features over 93,000 glittering LED lights showing fairy figures flying through the air with glowing trails of light behind them. Based on previous years, I’m expecting the lights to switch on on November 11.
Covent Garden

Covent Garden is easily one of London’s most magical places to visit during the festive season. And this year is set to be no different. They’re bringing back their stunning 55-foot Christmas tree, as well as the giant bells and baubles, and filling the area with Christmas lights from November 12 onwards.
They’re also bringing back their ‘The Theatre of Christmas’ campaign, “inviting visitors to step behind the curtain and into West End magic this festive season.”

The Churchill Arms is a strong contender for the city’s prettiest pub. But it’s definitely the shoo-in winner for London’s most Christmassy pub. Every year, they go all out with an astonishing array of lights and Christmas trees decorating the pub (we’re talking multiple Christmas trees stuck to the roof and walls). And this year is sure to be no different. They’ll have their decorations up and shining merrily from November 12 onwards.
Fitzrovia Quarter

Fitzrovia Quarter is collaborating with artist Claire Luxton on a love-ly display for Christmas this year. Visitors will spot a giant illuminated red heart installation suspended over Little Portland Street through the holiday season. The piece, titled Love is in the Air Reprise, will be in place from November 12 through to the New Year.

Bond Street was one of the first to announce details of its light display for 2026. This year, they’ll flip the switch on the lights on November 12. What’s more, this year is your last chance to see Bond Street’s current ‘Crown Jewel’ lighting scheme. In 2027, they’re planning on unveiling an entirely new festive design.
Savile Row

London’s most fashion-forward street debuted its sartorial new Christmas lights back in 2023. The display is inspired by the street’s tailoring pedigree, featuring glimmering shears that are suspended above the street, cutting through a long sheath of ‘fabric’. Based on the Bond Street lights announcement and previous years’ displays, I’m expecting the Savile Row Christmas lights to return on November 12.
Connaught Village

Connaught Village is always on hand with some festive cheer to brighten up the dark nights in London. And I expect this year will be no different! My prediction is that they’ll string up the lights and switch them on around the middle of November.
King’s Cross

King’s Cross goes all out every year for Christmas, with trees, lights, public art, and more. This year, I’m hoping for the return of the impressive 50-foot Christmas tree in Coal Drops Yard, as well as the new-for-2025 60-foot tree in Granary Square.
What has been confirmed is an impressive new Christmas market launching this year. This new market is part of “a wider programme combining live entertainment and seasonal food with independent makers and the neighbourhood’s well-loved brands and eateries for a full festive day out.” You can find it from November 16 to January 3.
Soho Kids Christmas Lights

They do things a little differently in Soho around Christmas time, with a heartwarming display that might be my favourite in the city. Visitors will be charmed by Christmas lights designed by schoolchildren from the local area. I’m particularly partial to the Christmas crab and the Christmas pineapple. I’m expecting the specially designed display to return on November 18.

This Christmas, Fleet Street Quarter is bringing some mischievous Christmas spirit to the streets of London. This year’s display will see them unveiling glimmering lights alongside twelve uniquely-designed Dennis the Menace sculptures. These will form a sculpture trail that will wind its way around the city this festive season.
The trail will be in place from November 18 to January 15. So, there’s plenty of time to seek out the striking statues.
Walworth Kids Xmas Lights
Building on the success of the Soho Kids Christmas Lights, a brand new charming student-designed display is coming to London this Christmas. Antonio Capelao, founder of the Soho Kids Xmas Lights, and art director and Walworth resident Madeleine Moxham, have worked with a new group of children to respond to “their own neighbourhood through drawing, architecture and storytelling.”
There will be 21 new designs, which have come directly from the students’ work. These will be illuminated in the area from November 19.

Leadenhall Market is already an enchanting spot to visit in London. But it’s all the more stunning when it’s festooned with Christmas lights and wreaths. Not to mention the brilliant Christmas tree at the centre of it all! This year, the market has confirmed that they’ll be turning the lights on at a special switch-on ceremony on November 19.
Chelsea

Here’s another confirmed date for the diary: the Chelsea Winter Village & Illuminations will return for 2026 on November 25. The special Christmassy attraction will fill the area with cheer all the way through to December 28. Be sure not to miss it!
Trafalgar Square

Norway’s annual Christmas present to London is one of the last displays to turn on in London, and it does tend to split opinion. But it’s also an important symbol of connection, friendship and alliance. My prediction is that we’ll have a new tree, strung up and shining brightly, from December 3.
So, there you have it: a guide to London’s Christmas lights in 2026. And with less than a month to go until the first displays turn on, it’s time to figure out how to work your phone while wearing gloves so you can grab some festive shots!
