If you’ve spent any time in Central London’s Leicester Square, you’ve no doubt noticed that there are a number of statues around the area. Perhaps you’ve spotted Paddington Bear sat on a bench, marmalade sandwich in hand. Or maybe you’ve taken a seat next to Mr. Bean. But did you know that they’re part of a full-on statue trail that winds its way around the area? Scenes in the Square is a free art trail that commemorates some of the biggest and most recognisable actors and characters to have ever graced the silver screen.
The film trail is specifically designed to appeal to all ages, with some statues even throwing it all the way back to the 1920s. You’ll find everyone from Harry Potter to Gene Kelly, Bugs Bunny, and Laurel and Hardy. But be warned, if you want to spot them all, some are harder to find than others! (I’m talking about you, Batman – I wandered around for AGES looking for you!)

Scenes in the Square
The statues along the trail represent a variety of cinematic eras. Among the statues you can find in Scenes in the Square are:
- Harry Potter
- Batman
- Wonder Woman
- Gene Kelly
- Bugs Bunny
- Mr. Bean
- Laurel and Hardy
- Mary Poppins
- Bugs Bunny
- Paddington Bear
More recent additions to the trail have included a statue of Daniel Kaluuya in the horror film ‘Get Out’, and even Bridget Jones. At the end of 2025, a new statute was unveiled, paying tribute to two Bollywood legends and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (‘DDLJ’) – the longest-running Hindi film of all time.

If you fancy learning some fun facts while you search for the statues, there’s an audio tour available on Spotify. Narrated by film geek Alex Zane, the tour is chock full of film clips, trivia, and interviews with figures such as Hugh Bonneville (from ‘Paddington’) and Patricia Ward Kelly, the wife and biographer of the legendary Gene Kelly. And it’s entirely free!
So, who do you think should be the next world-famous character to get the Scenes in the Square statue treatment? We’ll have to wait and find out!
