There’s a festival for everything nowadays, isn’t there? From the obvious music festivals to festivals celebrating Taiwanese culture, and even hot sauce festivals. But, hey, I’m not complaining! Especially after the news that an enormous BBQ festival, Big Grill, is also coming to our city this summer. Bring on the live fire and hunks of meat!
Coming all the way from Dublin, Ireland, The Big Grill has grown into a BBQ festival of impressive stature, with “20 Irish and international restaurants, 60 kings and queens of the grill and over 20,000 people in attendance”. And this June, they’re debuting a London edition of the festival – with a just-as-impressive showing of some of the best BBQ food around.
Said Big Grill Festival Director Andy Noonan:
“We have always had international aspirations for Big Grill so what better way to celebrate a milestone birthday than to bring the festival to a world class food destination like London. There’s always been a wonderful culinary corridor between both countries with some of the hottest talent from each working, learning, and innovating together. We want to bring some of that creativity and magic to Big Grill London this June.”
At the BBQ Festival
Big Grill London will bring some of London’s most exciting chefs, live-fire cooks, and drinks producers from around the city (and beyond) to East London’s Five Points Brewery. From June 8-9, across three sessions, chow down on smokey delights and sip on super-fresh craft beer (made mere steps away) as well as cocktails from legendary Irish bar Bar 1661.
Here’s what to look out for:
- Five Points’ resident BBQ slingers, From The Ashes
- Michelin-starred chefs (Robin Gill) and Great British Menu finalists (Melissa McCabe)
- TV chef and live fire maestro DJ BBQ
- a BBQ-forward take on the Sunday roast (Sunday only)
- All sorts of collaborations, such as:
- Afghan-fusion BBQ
- Filipino-Irish mash-ups
- a Chilli Eating Challenge
- Craft beer from Irish breweries
- live music performances
- and much more!
Adult tickets cost £50, which nets you four hero dishes to try. Children under 5 go free, while £35 tickets are available for those aged 6-17. These tickets get them into the festival, and two hero dishes to eat.
Big Grill London sessions run from 12pm – 4:30pm and 5:30 – 10pm on Saturday, June 8, and from 12 – 8pm on Sunday, June 9. The evening session on Saturday is for adults only.
