London is full of some ruddy great burgers that will leave you totally comatose.
We challenge you to make it through this post without dribbling just a little bit. But if you do succeed, you’re no friend of ours.
1. The Bellissimo, Bobo Social
Bobo Social is one of those epic joints that deserves a jolly good round of applause. From peanut butter to big piles of guac, Bobo sure knows how to dress up a good ole burger. Our favourite is the Bellissimo; a 6oz rare-breed beef patty, buffalo mozzarella, sun-dried tomato salsa, roasted pine nuts, basil pesto and butterhead lettuce. Delicioso. Their rare-breed beef comes from small farms across the country, and they change the breed regularly, so it’s never quite the same (plus, you have an excuse to visit over and over again)!
Yeah, yeah it’s excellent and all that, but do you want the best news?! You can grab a burger and a beer for just £10 over on Fever.
Find Bobo Social at 95 Charlotte St, near Goodge Street station, W1T 4PZ
2. The Dip & Flip by, er, Dip & Flip
These absolute legends cook up the most amazing, food-coma inducing burger you will ever put into your mouth. Think beef, cheese, pickles, and a beautifully soft bun, all ready to dip into deliciously meaty gravy. It’s a revolutionary combo of flavours, if you’re prepared to get a little messy.
3. The ‘ARI GOLD’ Cheeseburger, Patty & Bun
One delectable beef patty with all the toppings, plus some finger-licking smokey mayo, all huddled together in a beautiful brioche bun. Simple burger perfection. Patty and Bun. Does what it says on the tin.
4. The Mac Daddy, Dirty Bones
Make a list of everything you crave on a hungover Sunday and we’re pretty sure you’ll mentally create this burger. Carbs, cheese, carbs and meat. Nailed it. The Mac Daddy is a badass combo of brisket & dry aged steak topped with pulled beef short rib, mac & cheese and burnt onion & ale BBQ sauce. Fault it, we dare you.
5. The Tribute, Honest Burgers
To be honest, all of Honest’s burgers are pretty epic, but the Tribute is a very good choice. They often do special guest burgers too, and they’re different according to which restaurant you’re in (for example, you’ll find the Market burger at the Borough Market branch, the Dalston Chilli in the Dalston branch etc, etc). Besides the burger, the chips alone are a reason to visit Honest Burgers. They’re covered in rosemary salt and they’re honestly banging.
6. Dark Forest Hog’s Burger, The Lazy Hunter
This humble little restaurant in Kentish Town is home to one of the best burgers in London (just our opinion, but we’re pretty confident that you’ll agree). Try the Dark Forest Hog’s Burger with roasted hog, streaky bacon, mushroom, caramelised onion chutney, chestnuts and pickles. Ermaaagaaad. Pair it with a side of sweet potato fries, and prepare to only ever eat here for the rest of your life. Oh and, on Tuesdays, you can get 2 for £12. Jus’ sayin’.
117 Kentish Town Rd, Kentish Town NW1 8PB
7. Jerk Chicken Boom, BOOM Burger
Jerk chicken with fried plantain, rocket, mango & pawpaw sauce! Seriously, what’s not to love? ‘Cos Jamaican us crazy…
Find BOOM Burger at 272 Portobello Road, near Westbourne Park, W10 5TY
8. The Cliff, Burger & Beyond
These guys go above and beyond, but we guess that’s kinda the point, given their name. The Cliff is a 90 day-aged beef patty, with Monterey Jack cheese, pancetta bacon & tarragon mayo. But any choice is going to be a good one, we have no doubts about that.
Find Burger & Beyond at various markets/pubs in London. Follow them here to keep up to date.
9. The Frank, We Serve Humans
These guys are the unsung heroes of the burger scene. The Frank is a glorious brioche bun filled with their signature patty (made with brisket and short rib), blue cheese, truffled aioli and pickled red onion jam.
10. Cheeseburger, The Stag
We addressed the question “Has anyone had any really great burgers?” to the Secret London office, and someone suggested The Stag’s cheeseburger. We don’t really know too much about it other than the fact that it’s the best burger Ollie has ever had. We trust Ollie, he’s a reliable guy.
Find The Stag at 67 Fleet Road, Hampstead, NW3 2QU
