Calling all spice lovers, heat fans, and hot sauce devotees – a celebration of all things spicy is coming to London, and you don’t want to miss it. The Hot Sauce Society Festival is the biggest hot sauce festival in all of the UK, and it’s set to scorch your tastebuds this weekend.
Dropping down in Peckham on May 10 & 11, this will be the sixth annual Hot Sauce Society Festival, which has gone from strength to strength over the years. With a plethora of entertainment, a host of food options, and more hot sauce than you can sniff at (don’t get too close or you’ll singe your nose hairs!), it’s a raucous old time for chilli aficionados. The best part? Tickets are just a fiver – or free for under-12’s. And sure, you tot might not be the biggest spice-head (yet), but there’s plenty on offer to make it a fun day for the whole family.
What to expect at a hot sauce festival
Now, you might be wondering what exactly is in store at a hot sauce festival. After all, it’s not quite the same as a music festival! The event caters to everyone, with family-friendly activities, spice challenges, awards, food & drink, and more. Guests can enjoy the likes of:
- Over 40 traders
- Street food
- Craft beer and drinks
- DJs and live entertainment
- Chilli face-painting
The highlight of the festival, though, has to be the return of “Hop Burns and Black present Chilli Karaoke“. Contestants will battle stage fright and spice as they attempt to sing their hearts out immediately after eating a scorching hot scotch bonnet.
It’s essentially a brilliant day for capsaicin connoisseurs to try out some of the tastiest and hottest sauces around. Hot sauces will be available from producers such as Wiltshire Chilli Farm, Rye Lane Hot Sauce, The Lazy Scientist, Captain Chippies Spiced Rum Hot Sauce, and Little Baobab.
Sauces will range from classic to hugely inventive, those with punchy Asian flavours, and beyond. And don’t worry – they’re not all blow-your-head-off spicy, so you’ll still find plenty to enjoy if you’re just dipping your toes in the world of spice.
Food and drink
Naturally, you’ll need some food and drink to recover from the sauces – or to submerge yourself even further in the world of spice. Guests can enjoy everything from craft beer to cocktails and coffee, alongside plenty of food.
Dishes come from Lucky’s Chicken (check out their super spicy Nashville Hot Chicken), Oh My Dog! (with gourmet hot dogs), and C’est Cheese (with fancy grilled cheeses). If you’re there on Sunday, there will also be wood-fired pizza courtesy of 450 Degrees. And to cool down, Marcello’s will be slinging ice cream to quench the heat. They’ll even have a festival-exclusive flavour!
