Having seen what Well Kneaded are offering, we’ve decided that every restaurant needs a pizza slide.
What’s the most whimsical way to deliver food you’ve ever seen? Here in London, I’d say they mostly revolve around the quickest, most extra ways to deliver alcohol, whether that be a press for champagne/poke for Jäger button, or a cute little train delivering limitless champagne. Food delivery systems have been lagging somewhat – the imminent arrival of a cheese conveyor belt notwithstanding – so it’s a relief to hear of Well Kneaded and their fabulous pizza slide.
Yes, you did read that correctly. Located down in Earlsfield, Well Kneaded spent several years as a well-loved street food vendor – slinging slices out of their famed pizza van – before opening their first bricks and mortar site late in 2018.
Plenty of pizzas leap straight off the menu, with the Meaty Marg (chorizo, mozzarella, tomato) being a popular choice. Having said that, the Veggie Spesh, topped with courgette, mascarpone, basil pesto, and mozzarella, might be enough to turn this meateater veggie.
The Well Kneaded menu is rounded off by a range of excellent salads, burrata, and a fearsome ice cream sandwich which marries a dark chocolate and rye cookie with ginger ice cream and caramel sauce. However good that is, it can only steal focus from the pizza for a short time, since there’s still that awesome slide to discuss. BEHOLD!
Whizzing pizzas down a nifty chute from kitchen to garden, Well Kneaded have virtually ensured their place as a cult London eatery regardless of how good the pizzas are (and in case you haven’t been paying attention, they’re bloody good). As a reward for reading along, here’s the pizza slide in action:

Fun as the pizza slide is, it’s not quite the best thing about Well Kneaded – although that was a very hard call to make. No, the best thing about this pizzeria is its function as a social enterprise, which takes young people struggling to find employment, puts them on an in-house training program, and helps teach them the skills to succeed in the workplace, whether that be at Well Kneaded or elsewhere. Indeed, their greatest success story is chef Carl Brooks, who went from washing dishes seven years ago to running the kitchen with aplomb nowadays.
A pizza place that does sterling work in the community, and serves up slices in a brilliantly quirky way? Yeah, we really kneaded this place in our life.
