Grand title upon grand title has been given to London recently. In January this year, the city was crowned the best place in the world to visit for 2023, then came out on top in April as the best city in Europe in 2023, in June was named the best city in Europe for culture, with the most recent platitude being ranked the best city in the world for the ninth year in a row at the start of October!
As if those titles weren’t enough, London has also been accredited as the most scenic city in the world for springtime and the best city in Europe for street art. Well now there’s another title to add to the list if you can still keep up, London has just been crowned the second most interesting place in the world.
In a recent study done by adventure travel company Explore, data experts analysed a mammoth of 1.2 million articles about something that has happened in or belongs to a specific place, such as landmarks, ancient ruins, or famous battles, to determine that London is the second most interesting place in the world and the number one most interesting city in Europe.
New York came out on top as the most interesting place in the world with the highest ‘interest score’ in the study, but we’d say that second place is still a pretty impressive spot to nab. London beat out Tokyo which came in third, Paris came in twelfth, and Copenhagen ranked fourteenth amongst many other entries in the top 20’s which interestingly came from less recognisable places such as Longyearbyen in tenth and Catham-Kent in fifteenth.
The study found that whilst central London and the City of London were the areas that had the densest concentration of article locations, Hammersmith and Kensington also had a significant amount which isn’t hard to believe as both neighbourhoods have a fair few fascinating spots.
