‘Darling, I’m taking you out somewhere special tonight. That’s right – to Flavour Bastard.’
I know a cheeky marketing stunt when I see one, but must declare myself powerless to resist. With one foul-mouthed stroke of genius, this soon-to-launch Soho restaurant has already attracted our attention, along with Hot Dinners, Eater, The Caterer and everyone else who, on some level, still thinks swearing is quite funny.
The name is inspired by the ‘cuisine-agnostic’ menu, featuring big, small and ‘tiny’ dishes of frankly uncertain parentage. Chef Pratap Chahal will be serving up everything from white lentil, chorizo and pecorino doughnuts to brownie mousse with lavender ice-cream.
The restaurant opens on Frith Street next month, and with any luck Flavour could join Fat, Alan and Ol’ Dirty as a Bastard for the ages.
