The cheese toastie may be a humble food at its core – but simplicity always makes a food rife for riffage. And London sure boasts a wealth of cheese-fuelled restaurants and jaw-dropping, ooey-gooey cheese toastie concoctions. Heck, we’ve even got a wine bar with a whole cheese toastie menu! And now the time has come to find out just who actually makes the very best cheese toasties in London at the Cheesed Off cheese toastie competition.
Kitchen goods retailer Kitchen Provisions is hosting the search for the ‘King of Grilled Cheese’ this week. Their ‘Top Toastie Trials’ event will take over their Borough Yards shop on Thursday, July 25.
The Cheesed Off cheese toastie competition is hitting London to celebrate the UK production of the Chef’s Press. A long-time must-have tool for US chefs and home cooks alike, the kitchen tool is sure to revolutionise the UK’s cheese toastie game. The competition will be judged by Chef Bruce Hill (the inventor of the Chef’s Press) and they’re even accepting two wild-card entries from the general public.
How to enter the cheese toastie competition
If you want to face off in a cheese toastie battle against top London chefs, you can apply for one of the two wild-card entries for the general public. An application form is available on the Kitchen Provisions website. Applicants must be able to attend the event in person and prepare their cheese toastie ahead of time. Successful applicants will receive more details and there will be prizes for the people taking part. So even if you don’t win – you’ll nab some recognition anyway!
If you do nab a spot in the competition, you’ll be facing off against a pretty fearsome roster. Chefs taking part in the grilled cheese competition include those from Decatur, Rambutan, Supa Ya Ramen, and Brother Marcus, as well as George Egg. And trust us – they know their way around a toastie!
If you don’t fancy your chances in the quest for cheese toastie supremacy, you can also simply watch the trials. Tickets are free, and guests can enjoy some light refreshments during the judging, and toast the shop’s first anniversary. (And you’ll probably find out some top tips to improve your cheese toasties at home.)
Sounds like edam good time to me!
