The Lion King

Here’s a little peek at The Lion King’s first trailer.

Ready to get hit straight in the feels? Disney have unveiled the first trailer for their live-action remake of The Lion King, and they’re aiming squarely for your childhood. Check it out!

Opening with sweeping views of the African savannah, the trailer is heavy on the visuals, but pretty light on the plot. Not that the plot really needs much explaining to anyone who’s seen the Disney original (or to anyone who’s read Hamlet before). Instead, we’re treated to a stirring voiceover from James Earl Jones (reprising his original role of Mufasa), telling us that “A king’s time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, the sun will set on my time here, and rise with you as the new king.”

Wise words from the man who’s voiced both Mufasa and Darth Vader – and actually, it could kind of work for both roles… In other casting news, Donald Glover provides the voice for Simba, with Beyonce voicing Nala and Chiwetel Ejiofor taking on the role of Scar. Comic relief arrives in the form of Timon (Billy Eichner) and Pumbaa (Seth Rogen), along with John Oliver as Zazu. You’ve got a little while to wait to be king, though – The Lion King arrives in UK cinemas on July 19th, 2019.
