When you think of TV and film’s most iconic stop-motion characters, you think of the likes of Wallace & Gromit, Feathers McGraw, and Shaun the Sheep. Well, all of these iconic characters were created by the Aardman studio. And when you think of their creations, you likely think of tiny, pint-sized (or smaller) modular sculptures. But a brand new immersive experience, Larger Than Life, is blowing them up to an enormous scale.
‘Larger Than Life: Starring Wallace & Gromit, Shaun and More’ will drop down at London’s stunning Lightroom venue, with an enormous new venue-filling experience. Opening later this year, on October 14, the show marks the 50th anniversary of the four-time Oscar-winning Aardman studio.
Said Aardman co-founder Peter Lord: “The magic of what we do at Aardman is not about making things move, it’s about making them live; and this immersive journey at Lightroom is a brilliant celebration of the art and craft and – yes – the pure magic of animation.“

If you’ve been to any of Lightroom’s other shows, you’ll know what to expect: jaw-dropping visuals, blown up to an enormous scale, that transport you to another world entirely. Whether it’s the world of fashion, space, dinosaurs, or even David Bowie, it’s hard not to feel like you’ve left London and ended up somewhere else entirely. And soon you’ll be able to enter a world of anarchic clay-based mischief and mayhem.
Larger Than Life
The new show tells the story of the Aardman studio’s 50-year career. Going back to their humble beginnings in 1976, the show will feature “Aardman’s iconic cinematic moments, … never-before-seen archival content and bespoke new animation”. Some of the content in the show has never before been seen in public.
Aardman’s Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and Creature Comforts, said: “It’s a thrill to see Aardman’s worlds leap off the screen and into this spectacular immersive experience. From the very first sketches of Wallace & Gromit to the mischievous mayhem of Shaun the Sheep, these stories have always been about heart, hand-crafted detail, and a bit of a laugh. Now, fans can step inside Wallace’s invention shed or join Shaun and the Flock in a way that truly captures the tactile spirit of Aardman.“

During the 50-minute show, visitors will travel from the kitchen table, where the creative spark was ignited, through towering sets, across “scrap-paper pitches” to famed scenes from their hugely popular creations. Along the way, you’ll get a look behind the scenes at the work that goes into everything they do.
All of this will fill the room, projected across Lightroom’s towering 11-metre-high walls and onto the floor beneath visitors. Everywhere you look, you’ll find more details to explore and characters to follow.
Aardman co-founder David Sproxton said: “I’m very excited by this partnership with Lightroom, an innovative and truly immersive experience, where visitors will be able to experience what it’s like to be inside the Aardman studio, with everything that entails – sets, puppet characters, cameras, lights and, of course, an animator at work.”
