Fashion-fanatics and catwalk-connoisseurs, gather round – you’re going to want to hear this. Have you always dreamed of getting your bum on one of those coveted front row seats at a fashion show? Then now’s your chance. Well… sort of. Prepare to strike your very best pose, Londoners, as a very exciting and ever-so well-dressed Vogue exhibition will be strutting into London this November.
Vogue: Inventing the Runway is the next immersive exhibition heading to Lightroom in King’s Cross. Lightroom may sound familiar to you because they’ve truly been delivering the goods on the exhibition front recently. It’s previously hosted two extremely popular immersive exhibitions, ‘The Moonwalkers: A Journey With Tom Hanks’ and ‘David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away)’. But this November, Lightroom will be making way for the Vogue exhibition.
Vogue: Inventing the Runway will take a deep dive into the history of the runway show. From the intimate couture salons of the early 20th century all the way through to the unforgettable large-scale events of the present. The exhibition will transport viewers through locations and eras utilising Vogue’s extensive archives which date back to its very first publication in 1892.
Inside the Vogue exhibition
Giving visitors the unique opportunity to go backstage and lift the curtain on one of the fashion industry’s most symbolic experiences, the exhibition will delve into how runways have revolutionised the way we experience fashion and become the ultimate statement of a designer’s vision.
The venue’s impressive technology will be put to good use, projecting the spectacle onto four-storey walls and 360-degree canvases. Rare materials from the most famous fashion houses will be showcased as well as testimonies from influential editors, models and designers – all perfectly blended with original animation, immersive sound design, and popular music.
Fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Burberry, Chanel, Chloé, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Maison Margiela, Marc Jacobs, and Vivienne Westwood will all be featured – just to name a few. The experience will give visitors the unique chance to get up close and personal with these designers and their era-defining visions.
Anna Wintour, said: “At Vogue, we’ve been lucky enough over the decades to see many incredible runway shows, which have often told the story of fashion as much as the clothes themselves. This Lightroom experience is a wonderful opportunity for a lot more people to experience first-hand the thrill of watching the history of fashion unfold right in front of them.”
So, grab your handbags and your kitten heels, folks; we’re off to live out our fashion show fantasies.
Vogue: Inventing the Runway will run at Lightroom from November 13, 2024 – April 26, 2025. Find out more and book your tickets here.
