The Bride! (March 6)

Nope, not a wedding rom-com but a new chapter in the story of Frankenstein’s monster, inspired by the 1935 film ‘Bride of Frankenstein’ and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Set in 1930s Chicago, Christian Bale stars as the iconic creature who, lamenting his lonely life, asks a pioneering physician to create a companion for him. Thus, ‘the Bride’ (Jessie Buckley) is brought to life. Romance follows, as does a thrilling turn into Bonnie and Clyde territory.

James Gunn’s Superman helped kick off the launch of the new DCU in 2025, and now it’s time for his cousin to step (or, judging from her first appearance, stumble) onto the big screen. Epic is the name of the game with Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s Greek classic. Take a stacked cast (Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o…I could go on), plunge them into an ancient world with mythical beings, and you’ve got a recipe for some cinematic magic. The film follows a legendary king (Damon) on his perilous journey to reunite with his wife (Hathaway) after the Trojan War.

The plot of this one is still pretty cloaked in mystery, but there are some intriguing elements to get excited about. For one thing, JJ Abrams is the producer, and for another (two) things, it stars Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. The official plot line is that it ‘follows a family in the 80s who notice unusual happenings in their neighbourhood’ (and there’s a rumour that it involves dinosaurs).

The Austen classic is returning to the big screen, bringing the story of the Dashwood sisters and their romantic escapades to life once again. In this new iteration, Daisy Edgar-Jones steps into the role of Elinor, while Esme Creed-Miles will play Marianne. Personally, I was sold as soon as I saw that Fiona Shaw was part of the cast.

Based on Colleen Hoover’s novel, this twisty-turny psychological thriller stars Dakota Johnson as ghostwriter Lowen Ashleigh, who is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to help complete the book of his late wife, the bestselling author (Anne Hathaway), who suffered a mysterious accident. Unsurprisingly, not everything is as it seems.

Fans can journey back 24 years before the first Hunger Games film in this brutal prequel, which shines a light on the story of Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss Everdeen’s mentor. Taking place during the 50th games, known to be the bloodiest in history, a young Haymitch is selected to compete, but there’s a twist – each district must send double the number of tributes.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew (November 26)

‘Tis clearly the season for prequels. Greta Gerwig will take us back to the very beginning of Narnia in this adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s prequel novel. The story will explore the creation of a mystical land, following two friends who journey to another world to save a life, but face the wrath of an evil sorceress.

In a climactic end to the year, the final instalment in Denis Villeneuve’s space opera will transport viewers to the perilous sands of Arrakis, where Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides has served as emperor for the past 12 years. The plot is still a bit of a question mark, but no doubt there’ll be plenty more epic battles and ominous stares.
Avengers: Doomsday (December 18)

2026 is clearly planning to go out in style, with the much-anticipated new Avengers film hitting the cinema screens just in time for Christmas. It will come as no surprise that the plot is still tightly under wraps – but what we do know is that, true to form, there is an epic ensemble cast. One which includes the return of the original X-Men (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, James Marsden et al), Robert Downey Jr. as villain Doctor Doom and in a mysterious curveball, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers.
