Our diaries are already filled to the brim with Taylor Swift-based activities this year. We’ve got the London dates of her ‘Eras’ tour, the candlelight concerts entirely dedicated to her, and – of course – the highly anticipated release of her brand new album, The Tortured Poets Department. But Swifties, the fun doesn’t stop there, because we’ve got another item for you to add to your Tay-do lists: a visit to her favourite kebab shop in the city. Yes, really.
Kentish Delight is a rather modest kebab joint in Kentish Town. Fairly unassuming upon first glance; the spot isn’t exactly somewhere you’d expect pop royalty to regularly visit. But that’s where you’d be utterly mistaken.
It’s reported that Taylor used to frequently visit the north London kebab shop with her British ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. Yes indeed, the very same ex-boyfriend that Swift’s new album is supposedly written about – but more on that later. Kentish Delight was featured in her ‘End Game’ music video, released back in 2017. According to the people who work at Kentish Delight, Swift was a regular visitor before and after shooting the video.
Having been the kebab shop’s first brush with fame, they’re understandably very proud. Pictures of Taylor Swift visiting the takeaway spot adorn the walls, and the servers are happy to gush about their connection with the pop princess. Taylor’s go-to kebab order is apparently a chicken shish, with lashings of chilli sauce and plenty of salad. And they must be serving up some pretty delicious grub, as Swift has declared Kentish Delight as the best kebab in London. High praise, indeed.
The Tortured Poets Department
The Tortured Poets Department is Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album and is being released on Friday, April 19. Swift took the opportunity to announce the release of the album whilst picking up her Album Of The Year award for Midnights, which marked her 13th Grammy win. The album will supposedly detail Swift’s split from actor, Joe Alwyn – who was born and raised in Tufnell Park. They were in a relationship for six years before splitting last April.
I’m not entirely sure which is a more highly-anticipated event; the release of The Tortured Poets Department or the wait for by kebab after a night out. Either way, in answer to Taylor’s 2017 question – yes, we are very much ready for it.
