Ever wanted to see the Northern Lights? To sit or lay beneath the sky, looking up at the dazzling sight playing out above you? Well here’s your chance – and all without even having to travel out of the UK, let alone London!
The UK’s largest permanent immersive art experience, Frameless, has just launched their latest guest exhibition in their fifth gallery, ‘Blank Canvas’. Entitled ‘Illuminating the Arctic Night‘, the exhibition explores the work of Scandinavian artist and musician Lela Amparo.
Seeing the Northern Lights
The new exhibition draws from Amparo’s travel photography, with an accompanying soundscape that was recorded in a snowy, remote Norwegian village. The blend of the sound, imagery, and Frameless’ own technology “captures the moments of joy during the arctic winter months that come from seeing the Northern Lights dance across the sky.”
Enormous stark screens confront guests when they arrive, with floor-to-ceiling depictions of the raw, unforgiving cold of a Scandinavian winter. These are then contrasted by the joy and beauty of the Northern Lights and frozen arctic sunsets.
Said Lela Amparo: “The vast screens at Frameless will enable my work to be showcased to the fullest, providing a glimpse into the cold winter wonderland that besets Scandinavia at this time of year. Last winter I spent time in a remote village in Norway where I found comfort and solace in the quietness of everything and was able to create music that was intimate one second and relentless the next – capturing the entire spectrum of my emotions and feelings in life at that moment in time.
“After creating this audio, I instantly turned to my visuals and knew I needed to pair it with my work of the northern lights. And together, they capture what can feel or look intense but is actually rather delicate. I’m beyond excited to share this work with the world.”
Frameless
As well as the new exhibiton, guests can also enjoy Frameless’s four other permanent multi-sensory galleries. The installations immerse guests in the artworks from the likes of Van Gogh, Dalí, and more. But you don’t just walk around and peer at the paintings. Instead, thanks to the immersive experience, guests are invited to step right into the art and wander among the brushstrokes.
To commemorate the new show, and the festive season, the Frameless Café Bar has launched a new festive menu. And be sure to swing by the gift shop where a plethora of new gifts are available to purchase.
