If you’ve ever fancied popping round to Bridget Jones’s pad for a bite to eat, you happen to be in luck. Because now – a whopping 25 years after one of the most captivatingly chaotic characters in movie history first graced our screens, woefully wailing ‘all by myself’ – you can have a meal right in the middle of her legendary London living room. Yes, really.
Bridget Jones’s highly-enviable (and perhaps somewhat unrealistic) Zone 1 flat can be found atop the Globe Tavern pub on Bedale Street. Just a stone’s throw from Borough Market, it’s undoubtedly one of the city’s most recognisable pieces of rom-com real estate. The property has been no stranger to – well – strangers over the years, with plenty of film fanatics having flocked to the flat to snap some pictures outside it since it first appeared on-screen in 2001. But only relatively recently have visitors actually been able to head inside the pad and tuck in to some tasty food in the living room.
Since the start of 2025, Bridget Jones’s former fictional flat has hosted a run of delicious restaurant residencies, becoming a hub for up-and-coming eateries. It’s been home to the delicious likes of Khao Bird and Barang over he past year or so. And just last month, the latest pop-up restaurant has just moved in.
Kismet
The new restaurant in question comes in the form of Kismet and has landed in the Southwark spot courtesy of restauranteur, Dom Handy, and chef, Keiran Mustafa. Kismet pays homage to the lively meyhanes found in Istanbul and northern Cyrpus, bringing the merriment and convivial spirit of these traditional local taverns.
The mouth-watering menu is built around meze dishes and mangal-grilled kebabs, and the drinks menu is jam-packed with Turkish wine and sprits. Every Thursday, diners will also be treated to live performances on the qaran (a string instrument used at traditional meyhanes).
The dreamy decor features dark wooden furniture, crisp white tablecloths, and a charming mishmash of vintage ephemera and memorabilia lining the walls. It’s high-end but homely – and that, my friends, is a combination that Bridget Jones would most certainly approve of.
