London’s Original Mall Cops Have Been On The Beat For 199 Years

This little London shopping arcade has the oldest police force in the country.

The Burlington Arcade opened in 1819, just as the city was at it’s most skulduggerous, gin-soaked and Dickensian. Shopkeepers and customers alike needed protection from the local Artful Dodgers, which is where the fabulously dressed ‘Burlington Beadles’ came in. Great Big Story explain all in the video below…
