BAO’s new Shoreditch restaurant brings all the noods and bao buns to East London.
Good news for London’s hospitality industry has been pretty thin on the ground this past year, but when one of the capital’s most hype-worthy restaurants reveals a new branch opening, it’s definitely cause for celebration. BAO, the legendary bunslingers who’ve built a fearsome reputation for casually brilliant dining, have taken their menu to Shoreditch with a twist, introducing the BAO Noodle Shop on Redchurch Street.
The newest opening is inspired by the beef noodle shops of Taiwan, and serves steaming bowls of beef noodle soup in addition to some of their popular BAO buns and BAO BING desserts. It’s not the first time the team has dared to stray away from their beloved buns: BAO’s recent openings already drew on varied inspirations – Cafe BAO is inspired by western-style Asian cafes, whilst BAO Borough pays homage to late-night grill bars – and an authentic noodle shop was truly the missing puzzle piece.
The move to Shoreditch puts BAO in excellent company; within a five minute walk of their new Redchurch Street home, you’ll find dishy Indian spot Dishoom, hyped Thai joint Smoking Goat, pasta place Burro e Salvia, and brilliant Greek restaurant Suvlaki. And whilst that could be considered daunting competition for a new restaurant, you’d be foolish to bet against BAO making a success of the opening.
Find more info on their website. Opening times are Tuesday to Friday, 5pm to 11pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 11pm. 1 Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, E2 7DJ, nearest station is Shoreditch High Street.
