The weather outside might be frightful, but we’re hoping to remind you of why winter in London isn’t all that bad.
Well… Pubs are basically the answer. Their special mix of classic British comfort food, open fireplaces, and squashy furniture makes the London pub the perfect place to spend a chilly evening. So we’ve found a few we think you should visit. Psst! For a limited time only Hop House 13 are offering you a free pint at all of these pubs with the Fever app. All the more reason to check these cosy boltholes out…
1. The City Barge (Chiswick)
This lovely, riverside gem might not be your local pub, but it’s worth taking the journey out to leafy Chiswick to check out. Don your warmest winter knitwear and walk along the Thames path for a couple of miles, before rewarding yourself with a cold pint of Hop House 13 and a view of the river. The City Barge also serves up some pretty legendary pub grub, so you’ll be able to warm up inside and out.

2. The Belle Vue (Clapham)
If south London’s more your style, you’ll love The Belle Vue on Clapham Common. The leather booths, fairy light covered facade, and candlelit atmosphere is perfectly suited to the colder weather. It’s also ideally located for a post-Winterville mulled wine, if you don’t fancy paying well over the odds for a paper cup of it while you’re there.

3. The Bollo (Chiswick)
This place has everything you could possibly want from a classic British pub. It’s English oak-panelled interior looks like it’s been plucked straight out of Henry VIII’s hunting lodge, and the candlelit atmosphere certainly matches that theme. They serve all-day Sunday roasts, and even make their own chilli-infused vodka for the most heartwarming Bloody Mary you’ll ever sample.
13-15 Bollo Lane, Chiswick, W4 5LR
4. The Pembroke (Earl’s Court)
If we had to describe The Pembroke in Earl’s Court in one word, it would be ‘charming’. The exposed brick interiors and candle-strewn tables will have you coming back again and again. And let’s not forget the fireplace! They even boast an upstairs lounge bar filled with classic Chesterfield sofas, slouchy armchairs, and an 8ft projector screen showing cinema and sport on a regular basis.

5. The Footman (Mayfair)
This place is taking the meaning of the word ‘pub’ to another level. Expect a welcoming bar with a dash of fine-dining flair at this Mayfair masterpiece. Their three-floors hold something for everyone; whether that’s a culinary extravaganza in their upstairs dining room, or a pint and a sandwich at the bar. You’ll certainly appreciate the cosy decor and affordable prices in the heart of costly Mayfair.
5 Charles St, Mayfair, W1J 5DF
6. Victoria Inn (Peckham)
The Victoria Inn in trendy Peckham certainly knows how to do Christmas! One look at that wood burning stove and you’ll understand why it’s made the cut – we’re not sure we can even classify a pub as cosy if there isn’t even a working fireplace. This pub has been going since 1878 so it’s certainly stood the test of time. The Vic serves up a seasonal British menu all day long in a welcoming atmosphere filled with festive flourishes.
