It’s the taste of the moment. Hell, it’s the taste of the decade; it’s the mix of salty sweetness that gets all the housewives talking. Why do we love it so much? According to the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation (yep – that’s a thing), the first thing we crave is chocolate, and the second is salt. It’s no surprise then that salted caramel does such delightful things to our senses… Give in to your cravings and try out some of London’s best sticky offerings, you won’t regret it:

1. Salted Caramel Soft Serve @ Tredwell’s

[TripAdvisor]
It’s the classic childhood favourite made more ‘adult’: Mr Whippy made ‘posh’. Marcus Wareing’s more informal eatery in the West End has got some pretty delicious things on the dessert menu. Top of the list for any salted caramel enthusiasts has to be this homemade salted caramel soft serve. So soft. So smooth. So salty. And with honeycomb crumbled on the top for added texture. What more could you ask for?

2. Salted Caramel Brownie @ Bad Brownie

[About Time Magazine]
No, no. Stop. Just LOOK at that. Golden salted caramel oozing out of a perfectly moist chocolate brownie? That, my friend, is what dreams are made of. These aren’t just any brownies, these are bad brownies: sexy, indulgent and just a little bit naughty. Check out their website to see where the team are setting up stall this week – or order the brownies online. To your door. In your PJs.

3. Salted Caramel Cupcake @ The Primrose Bakery

[The Primrose Bakery]
We love these guys, so much so that they’re on our list of where to find the best cupcakes in London, which is basically the word of God, (though we do say so ourselves). A light vanilla sponge hides a **SPOILER ALERT** deliciously indulgent gooey caramel centre and is topped with caramel icing, crushed caramel and fleur de sel. It’s the perfect balance of salty and sweet. And it’s a cupcake, so it was always going to be delicious.

4. Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart @ Pizza East

[About Time Magazine]
It may not look like much but this tart packs a punch. It’s dark, salty and intense: washed down with an espresso, it’s the perfect way to end a meal at Pizza East. We can’t knock these guys for their pizza and we DEFINITELY can’t knock them for this dessert. Try it, and you’ll know what we mean.

5. Salted Caramel Doughnut @ St John Bakery

We may have mentioned At Johns once or twice before, mainly because they are hands down the best doughnuts in London but we didn’t go into detail about a certain flavour… Fit to burst with custardy, caramel-y goodness and topped with honeycomb, their salted caramel doughnuts are a little harder to come by than their jam filled ones but when you do track them down… Oh wow.

6. Salted caramel, vanilla ice cream and pretzel crumble crepe @ Shutterbug

[Shutterbug]
Shutterbug in Shoreditch prides itself on doing really good cocktails and really good crepes – you can’t really argue with that. The combination of salty pretzels and sweet caramel sauce is a match made in Heaven: finished off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (and possibly with an Earl Grey infused gin cocktail on the side) and you won’t just exclaim OMG, you’ll be screaming it all night long…
