According to the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation (yep – that’s a thing), the first thing we crave is chocolate, and the second is salt. It’s no surprise then that salted caramel does such delightful things to our senses… Give in to your cravings and try out some of London’s best sticky offerings, you won’t regret it:

We love these guys, so much so that they’re on our list of where to find the best cupcakes in London, which is basically the word of God, (though we do say so ourselves). A light vanilla sponge hides a **SPOILER ALERT** deliciously indulgent gooey caramel centre and is topped with caramel icing, crushed caramel and fleur de sel. It’s the perfect balance of salty and sweet. And it’s a cupcake, so it was always going to be delicious.
Primrose Hill; Covent Garden
It may not look like much but this tart packs a punch. It’s dark, salty and intense: washed down with an espresso, it’s the perfect way to end a meal at Pizza East. We can’t knock these guys for their pizza and we DEFINITELY can’t knock them for this dessert. Try it, and you’ll know what we mean.
Shoreditch; Portobello; Kentish Town
We may have mentioned At Johns once or twice before, mainly because they are hands down the best doughnuts in London but we didn’t go into detail about a certain flavour… Fit to burst with custardy, caramel-y goodness and topped with honeycomb, their salted caramel doughnuts are a little harder to come by than their jam filled ones but when you do track them down… Oh wow.
Arch 72, 41 Maltby St

Shutterbug in Shoreditch prides itself on doing really good cocktails and really good crepes – you can’t really argue with that. The combination of salty pretzels and sweet caramel sauce is a match made in Heaven: finished off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (and possibly with an Earl Grey infused gin cocktail on the side) and you won’t just exclaim OMG, you’ll be screaming it all night long…
