Historic department store Whiteleys is being revamped into a new luxury shopping complex.
The former Bayswater shopping centre, Whiteleys, is currently being transformed into a brand new luxury retail, dining, and hotel complex. Whiteleys was one of London’s most prestigious shopping centres and served customers for well over 100 years. Since Westfield popped up nearby in 2008 however, its success slowly declined until it closed its doors in 2018. However, the £1 billion revamp will breathe new life into the building – and it looks like it’ll be worth every penny! [Featured image: Finchatton]

The Grade II listed building, known for its grandiose features, will be transformed into 30 new stores, a cinema, state of the art gym, a social wellness club and nearly 140 private residential apartments and townhouses. Did we mention it will also house Britain’s first Six Senses hotel? That’s money well spent if you ask me.
These renovations will include both meticulous restorations and modern designs, with the aim of taking the already breathtaking building to the next level. World-renowned architectural firm, Foster + Partners, will over oversee these innovative changes, making sure to maintain the property’s art deco heritage.

The iconic clock and spectacular glass dome, for example, will be restored, and the famous grand staircase will be incorporated into the hotel. Something new to look forward to is the new open-plan courtyard that’ll be located in the middle of the building.
This is a complete reimagining of the historic building, but we have no doubt that it’ll better than ever. We can’t wait to see the end result but until then, these tantalising photos will do!
