If you were eagerly awaiting to be one of the first to ride Hyperia – Thorpe Park’s brand-new rollercoaster, which is officially the tallest and fastest in the UK – then you need to hold on just a little while longer, as the adored theme park near London have announced that the new coaster will remain closed for the next couple of weeks.
Hyperia opened on Friday March 24, and the attraction launched with rave reviews from fans of the park, even hosting an event with live entertainment and impressive pyrotechnics. However, Hyperia could not reopen the following day, with Thorpe Park releasing a statement on their social media claiming they need a couple more days before reopening.
However, it didn’t stop there. A few days later, Thorpe Park released another statement saying: “As you may have already seen, Hyperia is currently unavailable. Despite our best efforts we are unable to commit to re-opening Hyperia before June 8.”
In another recent update, Thorpe Park uploaded a YouTube video with additional context. They stated: “We were riding a 236ft high on Friday evening, and we were fully set to do it again on the following day.”
“Sadly, despite the very best effort from our teams, we were unable to open Hyperia on Saturday the 25th. Please from all of us here at Thorpe Park, accept our deepest apologies.”
The rollercoaster has been riling up excitement since its announcement, with its record-breaking features playing a key role in the hype for Hyperia. Reaching heights of 236ft and speeds of over 80mph, it’s overtaken Blackpool’s ‘The Big One’ as the tallest rollercoaster in the country, and its sister coaster ‘Stealth’ at Thorpe Park as the fastest.
When it re-opens, you can wind your way through the exhilarating twists and bends that feature multiple inversions and even a splash-down section, as well as several air-time hills, a non-inverted Immelmann bend, and stall loop elements. For more information on the coaster, click here.
People who were at Thorpe Park on the Saturday are entitled to a free return visit. If you are one of those people, visit the Thorpe Park website. Thorpe Park will remain open as Hyperia gets ready to re-open.
