In 2017, the main tunnelling will get underway to create the Northern Line extension to Battersea. Preparations for this project began in Spring 2015, however, the actual tunnelling will begin to take place in March of this year. But how, exactly, are they going to be doing it? Meet Helen and Amy, 650-tonne tunnel-boring bombshells. Well, machines. There’s nothing we love more than a couple of strong ladies…

The extended connections to Battersea and Nine Elms, which will branch off from Kennington, will certainly play an important role in making transportation slicker to and from the Battersea area. This is particularly important when considering the developments taking place there in the coming years, with the likes of Apple moving into their new offices in Battersea Power Station.
The line itself is due to be ready in 2020. You can find out more about the Norther Line extension and timings on TfL’s website.
