A Great Glass Elevator Will Take You Up One Of Battersea Power Station’s Chimneys

Upwards, ever upwards!

Nothing gives that special someone a thrill more than unexpectedly taking them up the chimney. Hence, the newest viewing opportunity to grace London’s skyline – a glass lift that will whisk visitors to the very top of one of Battersea Power Station’s iconic chimneys.

Battersea

Set to open in 2021, the attraction will hoist punters some 109 metres above the riverside, enjoying 360° views across the city. That’s a little lower than rival vistas at the London Eye, Shard or Sky Garden, but does come with a bit more authentic history behind it, even if the chimneys themselves are actually all-new replacements of the originals.

Elsewhere in the gargantuan redevelopment will be a network of neat new event spaces, including the 1,500 capacity Event Box (think the name needs some work lads?) and a seriously steampunk-sounding bar called Control Room A, full of original features and art deco architecture.

Apple will be taking over tons of office space inside the complex, and plenty of stores and restaurants are also planned for the centre. Lots to look forward then, even if, like me, you’re deathly afraid of lifts.
