2. Form a new annual tradition with a West End show
We’re so lucky here in London to have one of the most iconic theatre districts in the world, and if there’s one time of year to treat ourselves to a show, it’s the festive season. Naturally, both December and early January are packed full of incredible shows, from the renowned new play Barcelona – starring Emily in Paris‘ Lily Collins – at the Duke of York’s Theatre, to the likes of Steve Coogan in Dr Strangelove at Noël Coward Theatre, and the global smash Les Misérables at Sondheim Theatre.
Other highlights this festive season include the Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Leicester Square Theatre’s Sh!t-faced Showtime: A Pissedmas Carol, and The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre. Tickets can be purchased directly from the respective theatres.
3. Immerse yourself in some of London’s best culture
If you have a few cheeky days off over Twixmas, the West End isn’t short of great things to do – and while the area is globally known for its fantastic theatres, the culture offering doesn’t end there.
The area is home to the Royal Academy of Arts, the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery – all free to visit – with must see paintings at the latter from the likes of Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci.
Come sundown, swap art for a few laughs at the famous Comedy Store, where you can see world class comedy talent performing daily. The venue has been a launchpad for the careers of big names such as Mike Myers (yep, Austin Powers!), French and Saunders and Eddie Izzard – so who knows what budding comedian you could catch before they make it big time.
4. Catch up with friends over food and drinks
London’s West End is a haven for fantastic food and drink – from swanky cocktail bars to relaxed dining spots where you can escape the crowds for a while.

For those in search of something a little more special and unique, one of London’s most loved restaurants – Fallow – offers a lively atmosphere and meaty dishes packed full of flavour, while Bardo combines glamorous decor with beautifully crafted Italian dishes. Additionally, combining theatre with food, Lio London is a hotspot for high-octane cabaret, with upmarket grub making this a once-in-a-lifetime choice for a very special Christmas outing.
5. Pick up special gifts at some of the UK’s best (and biggest) stores
