Season six of The Crown marked the hit show’s end in December of last year but its reign isn’t quite over yet. A free exhibition displaying costumes and props from the series has landed in the heart of London, so fans of The Crown rejoice as you can now get up close and personal with some of the most iconic looks from the historical drama series.
Until February 5, fans can see 24 costumes worn by various characters from all six seasons as part of a whopping collection of 450 props, costumes, and furniture all used in the show and all on display at Bonhams. The items are all being displayed before they go on auction at Bonhams in February. 150 lots will go on a live sale on February 7 at the auction house’s New Bond Street address, with the remaining 300 lots to go under the hammer at an online auction from January 11 to February 8.
Highlights include the replica of Princess Diana’s famed ‘Revenge Dress’ worn by Elizabeth Debicki in season 5 which was extensively researched by costume designers Amy Roberts and Sidonie Roberts and recreated with exceptional detail. It’s expected to fetch between £8,000-£12,000 at auction.
Visitors will also get a chance to see the replica worn by Claire Foy in season 1 of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation Ceremonial Garments which is estimated to go for £20,000-£30,000, along with a recreation of the most famous ring in the world, Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring, worn by Emma Corrin and estimated at £2,000-3,000.
Other fashion items on display are the powder blue gown ball and fur coat worn by Claire Foy, Vanessa Kriby’s wedding dress as Princess Margaret, and the pink boucle Chanel-inspired suit worn by Jodi Balfour as Jackie Kennedy. Showing both glamorous ball gowns and clothes Queen Elizabeth would have worn in more relaxed environments, such as her riding outfits, reflecting the duality of the Queen’s existence and “[pointing] to the irony between the public vs. the private lives” of the royal family, Amy Roberts and Sidonie Roberts note.
On display are also the Number 10 Downing Street facade worth around £20,000-£30,000, a reproduction of St Edward’s chair that could go for £10,000-£20,000, and the world’s only replica of the dazzling Gold State Coach made in 1792 which could be yours if you had a spare £50,000 lying around somewhere. Plenty more recognisable props and costumes are featured in the exhibition and will be a real treat for any fans of the show.
The exhibition is free and open from 9:30am to 4:30pm during weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends. Head here to see more of the items on auction.
