It’s happening people. The Underground as we know it is changing. TfL are seriously going to alter the lives of the commuters at Holborn Station for a whole six months. Starting on Monday, the ‘standing only’ escalator arrangement with begin.
Customers at Holborn station will be asked to stand on both sides of two ‘up’ escalators, in a plan to reduce congestion at the station. Reduce congestion it may well do, but it will also reduce our sense of autonomy. We’ll have to stand helplessly still, awkwardly side-by-side, like the left Twix and right Twix on a factory conveyor belt. It will be the most horrendous 30 seconds of a commuter’s journey. Thankfully, there will be one remaining regular escalator, where the old rules still apply.
