DISCLAIMER: This article has been published for April Fool’s Day (April 1) and the news of a new Thames scent is false.
The Thames is the lifeblood of the city. For centuries, it’s transported people and goods and today it provides 90% of London’s water supply. But one startup has taken its love for the river one step further.
The new London startup has captured the essence of the Thames and bottled it up for everyone to enjoy.
A scent inspired by the Thames
Some may ask the question, why would anyone want to smell like the Thames? It’s not necessarily known for its lovely aroma, more for its murky look than anything. But that’s not the case for the London CEO behind the new project.
“I have such fond memories around the Thames. Whether it’s enjoying a pint by the river or cruising down it by boat, I just wanted to bottle that feeling,” says Joe King, the CEO of the London startup.
Joe’s team have been tirelessly working to create a scent that truly encapsulates the feel of the river since the beginning of the year. The scent is set to capture the smell of the outdoors, while also feeling refreshing.
How can I get my hands on the new scent?

Eau de Thames will be released today (1 April) in a limited run and can be purchased directly from the eaudethames website. Bottles of the stuff will set you back £25, and depending on how popular the first run is, it will determine the future of the business. Although the company has said they expect to be sold out by midday on the day of release.
While Eau de Thames focuses on the water, a rival startup is reportedly working on ‘Scent of the Tube.’
