And I know when that hotline bling, that can only mean one thing: Pop Golf.
We’re not exactly short on crazy golf courses here in London, but you know we’re never going to say not to another one. Especially not when it’s been inspired by the biggest pop music hits in history. Opening on May 17 at BOXPARK Wembley, Pop Golf uses the iconic music videos of Drake, Kylie Minogue, and more to create an all-swinging, all-dancing homage to the power of pop.
Yep, whilst Puttshack might go hi-tech, Swingers go frightfully English, and Birdies go zanily immersive, Pop Golf imagines what would happen if MTV launched a golf club. The results look pretty exciting, with plenty of neon to dazzle the senses: personally, I think it’s just a matter of time before the wheel comes full circle and someone actually shoots a music video here.
The nine themed holes feature retro boomboxes, floating cassette tapes, and headphones, all of which are used to convince you that you’ve strayed into a music video. As the Pop Golf team note, “This is not just another standard crazy golf course, this is a celebration of music.” That ethos extends beyond the aesthetics, too; Pop Golf will make use of cutting edge audio technology to create an unbeatable sound system, whilst their carefully put together playlists will showcase the best new tracks that have got the music industry excited, including exclusive content from up and coming acts.
Your time on the course offers innumerable photo ops with the pop culture references dotted around the space, in addition to the joyful/frustrating challenge (depending on your golf ability and luck) of tackling a tricky course. Once you’ve conquered the course, you can relax on the sofas with Toast lagers and IPAs or Lollipop cocktails, and Pop Golf are planning on an equally tasty food menu. They’ll also make use of digital menus, mask policies, sanitising stations, and heightened cleaning regimes to keep people safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It’s a temple of music and golf, based on the belief that “nothing brings people together like music and play”. And even if your golf game goes south, maybe it’ll inspire you to create the next viral music video?
