Now that the sun finally decided to make an appearance this week, after a very grey winter, it has inspired many of us to start making plans again. So, if you’re planning to swap cosy nights in binging your latest TV obsession, you’ll want to make sure that your springtime plans go as smoothly as possible, so here’s one major travel update you should be aware of.
What are the dates of the Piccadilly line closures?
Over two weekends from 6-8 March and 20-22 March, the line from Cockfosters to Uxbridge will be closed. The closure will begin on the Friday night tube service on each weekend and run throughout both Saturday and Sunday.
Trains will only be running from Acton and Heathrow on these weekends.
Why will part of the Piccadilly line be closed?

Although it can feel frustrating when big closures like this happen, the reason is actually a pretty good one. The line will be closed to prepare it for some swanky new trains. The new trains are set to be state-of-the-art carriages that will feature air con, wider double doors, better digital display screens, improved step-free access and on-train CCTV.
There are set to be 94 new trains, a step up from the current 84 trains running on the line, and the frequency of trains on the line will increase from 24 to 27 trains an hour.

How to get around with the Piccadilly line
The Piccadilly line is responsible for more than 10% of all tube journeys, so it’s fair to say these closures may cause quite a lot of disruption for those getting around London.
One of the main areas the Piccailly line serves is Heathrow Airport. While the western part of the line that goes to Heathrow does remain open, there are still many other ways to reach the airport from central London.
Travellers will still be able to use the Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express, local buses and National Express coaches to reach the airport, so those seeking some sun have many options to ensure they make it to their destination.
For other destinations, other tube lines will still be operating, but make sure to check before you travel for any last-minute closures.
