Last night the capital city descended into complete and utter Barbie-mania as celebrities flocked to the pink carpet to watch the London premiere of Greta Gerwig‘s wildly anticipated movie: Barbie.
Although we mere mortals still have a week to wait until we’re allowed in on the action, nothing can stop us from reveling in the pinkest pictures we’ve ever seen as last night our capital city was splattered head to toe in Barbie’s signature colour in celebration of her Best. Day. Ever. I guess it really is Barbie’s world and we’re all just living in it.
That’s right, in partnership with Visit London, with the push of a sparkly, pink button, landmarks across the city were well and truly Barbie-fied (some admittedly with more gusto than others) and we’ve got the pictures to prove it.
Come on Barbies, let’s go watch other people party while we have to wait until July 21.
The London Eye
It might not be everybody’s favourite attraction but there’s no denying that The London Eye well and truly understood the pink assignment.
The OXO Tower
The OXO Tower was also amongst the landmarks getting in the Barbie spirit.
Canary Wharf
Canary Wharf clearly went for the less is more approach but I guess that’s not surprising considering she’s Barbie and he’s just Ken-ary Wharf.
Trafalgar Square
Nelson’s Column and the Trafalgar Square Fountains also got the Barbie treatment last night which I’m sure Nelson would be absolutely thrilled about.
South Bank
The South Bank was also tickled pink las night and although it’s no Barbie Dreamhouse, it’s the taking part that counts, hey?
The W Hotel
It’s serving some seriously chaotic Ken-ergy but they can have an A for effort.
Alongside the landmark illuminations, Barbie’s iconic pink corvette was parked up outside the London Eye, a pink tardis appeared on the banks of Tower Bridge, and pink sparkly taxis took over the streets of the city because quite frankly, why not?
If you weren’t excited for the movie before, surely this has got you in the Barbie spirit? After all, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em.
On turning London pink, Laura Citron, CEO of Visit London commented: “Barbie is a global icon and we’re excited to partner with the upcoming movie Barbie to turn some of London’s iconic landmarks pink in her honour. With so much of the film shot locally at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and brought to life by a wealth of local creative talent who worked on the film, we’re proud to celebrate London’s role in what is sure to be one of the biggest films of the year.”
‘Barbie’ and Visit London illuminated London landmarks pink on 12 July to celebrate “Barbie’s Best. Day. Ever.”, whilst the cast and filmmakers visit London for the European Premiere. ‘Barbie’ is released in cinemas nationwide in the UK from July 21 2023.
