You heard it kids – the future is here! Come summer this year, don’t be surprised if you see cars driving themselves around some of London’s streets. The automated pods, which are currently used as shuttles around Heathrow Terminal 5, will be the vehicles first trialled on the roads – without set tracks.
[Yahoo]This is part of the £8 million Gateway project, set up to measure the public’s opinion and willingness to autonomous transport. Although routes have not yet been confirmed, it is said that the cars will be trialled around the Greenwich area, including North Greenwich tube station, the O2 Arena and pavements running through residential areas.
[Pinterest]The pods will be developed from the original prototype used at Heathrow, ensuring that the become entirely driverless! We don’t know if this is brilliant or scary! What’s it to be next? Driverless buses? Effortless treadmills? Hour-less but fully paid jobs?! (We wish…)
