The date has finally been set! On 24th June The ArcelorMittal Orbit Slide in London’s Olympic Park will open its tunnel to the public.
Measuring 178m in length, the slide will be the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide. It will twist and turn 12 times, including a tight corkscrew section named the ‘bettfeder’ – after the German word for ‘bedspring’… but in German it sounds far scarier. The Slide ends with a 50 metre straight run to the ground. The trip takes all of 40 seconds, with riders expected to hit speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. We’re exhausted even thinking about it.
And how much are tickets for the 40 second whirlwind? Adults will pay £17 on the day. But that’s nothing to the thrill-seekers and big kids amongst us, right? You can buy your tickets in time for the launch (off) here.
