As the temperature in the capital city continues to sky-rocket, I think it’s fair to say that the season for submerging ourselves into open water is well-and-truly upon us. And right on cue, the lovely lot over at The Telegraph have decided to point us in the very direction of Britain’s best al-fresco swimming pools.
From scenic and secluded sancturies to city-centre swimming spots; they’ve scoured the length and breadth of the country to uncover the loveliest lidos of all – and four of them happen to be right here in London. So, if you’re in search of the perfect place to cool off during this hefty heatwave, look no further, folks.
London Fields Lido
A firm favourite on London’s lido scene; London Fields Lido earnt itself the 6th spot on The Telegraph’s list. Hailed one of the UK’s ‘best run’ lidos, this Hackney hangout dates all the way back to 1931. And whilst it was left abandoned for the best part of 20 years from the late-eighties, it certainly made an impressive comeback – now proudly claiming the title of one of the city’s (and the country’s) best-loved lidos.

Hampton Pool
Perched at number 8 on The Telegraph’s list of Britian’s best lidos is Hampton Pool. This iconic outdoor pool is sat scenically amongst two-acres of woodlands, near the beloved Bushey Park. This lido is open 365 days and year and heated to a rather delightful 27-degrees. So, it’s the ideal location for an outdoor dip – no matter the season.
Parliament Hill Lido
The historic Grade II listed Parliament Hill Lido was named the 11th best lido in Britain. Found on the edge of Hampstead Heath, this iconic outdoor pool is one of London’s last remaining Art Deco lidos – and there are fragments of its lengthy past dotted around the space (including newspaper cuttings dating back to when the pool opened in the 1930s). It’s another spot that’s open all year round, but we must admit that it’s particularly dreamy on a sunny summer’s day.
Oasis Sports Centre
The final London lido to have earnt itself a spot on the list of the best lidos in Britain is Oasis. This surreptitious spot is located slap-bang in the middle of Covent Garden. But as it cannot be seen from the street, very few Londoners even know that it’s there. This 27.5-metre pool and sundeck is a true hidden gem in the heart of the capital city – perfect for the entire family.
