A gorgeous new restaurant is set to hit Battersea soon, and from what we’ve seen from the pre-opening photos, it might be a contender for one of the prettiest restaurants in London. Boudica, named for the iconic Celtic warrior queen, is set to bring cosy vibes and upmarket food in stunning environs that will have you returning for the surroundings as much as the dining.
Opening on April 28, Boudica will stay open all day, for brunch, lunch, dinner, and drinks into the night. It’s the kind of venue that transitions throughout the day, from a tranquil restaurant setting to a pumping cocktail bar with world-class DJs, to a weekend alfresco dining destination.
With it biophilic décor, Boudica is bringing a nature sanctuary to Battersea. We’re talking dazzling plants and foliage, Italian stone, and a wooden parquet floor. But, despite the stacks of stalks, it’s still seductive and inviting with carefully considered lighting and a mixture of soft and hard touches in the furnishings.
Said Boudica co-founder, Ed Allingham:
“Boudica has been a dream project of mine for years now. After being lucky enough to travel the world extensively in my youth, I’ve wanted to create a venue internationally inspired but intrinsically London in its approach to all-day dining. Battersea has become this vibrant inventive hub of flavours and creative endeavours and it was only natural that we launch the Boudica brand here.”
Oh, and make sure you don’t miss the toilets – it’s one of those London venues with incredibly picturesque loos!
On the menu at Boudica
Boudica’s menu plays tribute to their namesake historical figure’s Celtic origins. The food is classic comfort food, but with an international and contemporary twist. The team explicitly wanted to create a menu that oozed cosiness, something they felt was lacking in London’s upmarket restaurant scene.
To achieve that goal, the menu ranges all the way from Homemade Pumpkin Amaretto and Mascarpone Raviolo for starters to Marinated Welsh Lamb Cutlets with Baba Ghanoush or the 28 Days Dry Aged De Beouf For 2 from the grill. On the side you can chow down on some fries with pecorino and truffle, and plenty more. Oh, and we definitely can’t wait to try the Peanut Bar with Whiskey Parfait. A whiskey parfait simply sounds too good to miss!
Food at Boudica covers the gamut of vegetarian, vegan, meat, and seafood dishes, and focus on sustainably sourced ingredients from UK producers. It’s the classic combo: good ingredients, cooked well, make great food!
And the drinks…
It’s in the drinks menu that Boudica really makes it clear where the inspiration for their venue comes from. Each cocktail has its own story and origin, from ‘Boudica’s Fury’, to ‘The Warrior Queen’, and beyond. The menu will also cover a range of expertly selected wines, and premium spirits.
Oh, and they’ll also have a secret whiskey menu – “where inquisitive imbibers are welcome to investigate and purchase from a selection of the founder’s secret most interesting whisky”. We’ll be honest, we’re not sure exactly what that means – except that we can’t afford it!
Boudica is, in their own words, “a place to meet, a place to celebrate, a place to catch up.” They want to become an essential part of the everyday lives of locals and Londoners. And with their foliage-filled vistas, warming cuisine, and ice-cold cocktails, they’re on their way to succeeding.
Boudica will open on April 28, at 12 Palmer Rd, Nine Elms, SW11 4FA. Head to their website to find out more.
