Did anyone really think Banksy would stop after just a week? After the piranhas on the City Of London police box arrived yesterday (August 11), many wondered whether the Bristol-based artist’s London series of animals posted daily would come to close.
But, Monday is here, marking both a new week and the arrival of the eighth piece of the animal puzzle, this time with the revelation of a rhino in Charlton.

Joining an ever-growing pack of animals, from goats to pelicans, the rhino is drawn onto a wall rearing up onto its hind legs and looking like it’s climbing on top of a stationary car parked by the wall with a traffic cone on it.
Does the silver Nissan Micra having the cone liken it to a rhino? It’s hard not to see some kind of mechanical resemblance. It follows on the theme of Banksy’s drawings that use the environment to interweave into the piece, like the ledge of his first artwork (the goat) morphing into a cliff edge through the painting’s placement.
It’s been quite the saga in Banksy world, with everything kicking off with a goat artwork in Kew a week ago today. Then, the elephants arrived in Chelsea, before three monkeys were spotted in Brick Lane. After this, the short-lived howling wolf came (and was taken from) Peckham, before Friday gave us some hungry pelicans at a fish and chips bar in Walthamstow. The weekend brought us a cat, which also didn’t last long in its placing, and the aforementioned group of piranhas.
Like all the previous animal posts, the rhino has been put out there with no comment from the artist, leaving fans of Banksy to take to the comments and posit their theories about each piece.
One commenter humorously remarked ‘That car just went up 100x in price’. Certainly wouldn’t shock any of us around these parts.
Are we getting another tomorrow? Who knows at this point – Banksy has proved himself very hard to read so we won’t try and predict the artist’s movements. Tell us what you think the next animal might be, and check back here tomorrow for any further updates in the world of Banksy.
