6 Of The Best Places To Watch The Sunset In London (Without Getting Rained On)

As we move into summer and the sun sets on spring, we’re starting to get excited about the warmer weather that’s (hopefully) coming our way very soon. What better way could there be to welcome in these changes than with an evening sun salutation? Don’t worry about the weather, because we’ve got you covered – quite literally – with six great indoor viewing options. So grab a bottle of winge and a couple of glasses, because these sunset spots are perfect places to share with your loved ones…

1. The Shard

The tallest building in London (at 305 metres) rather predictably happens to be a beautiful sunset vantage point. The wonderful thing about The Shard – aside from it’s obvious architectural beauty – is that it houses six fantastic bars and restaurants for you to take your pick from, as well as its famous viewing platform, The View from The Shard. We know these views won’t disappoint – they’re even backed up by statistics!

2. Duck and Waffle

Duck and Waffle is open 24/7, giving you ample opportunities to enjoy the day’s changing colours alongside some extremely creative food and drink. Go for the sunset and stay as late as you like; with enough espresso martinis you might even make it through ’til sunrise!

3. The Sky Garden

Sky Garden brings you the best of both worlds in so many ways: outside and in, night and day, coffee and cocktails. Bring it all together by going for coffee, cocktails and a three course meal at Sky Garden’s multiple bars and restaurants while you watch the sun set across the river, surrounded by shrubbery. All the fun of a rooftop bar without the frostbite!

4. Madison Rooftop Restaurant

If you’re looking for something a little different, head to Madison. This view leaves the skyscrapers behind and puts the beautiful St Paul’s Cathedral centre stage, and when you’ve seen the sun slip behind the cathedral dome once, you won’t be able to resist a return visit! The best sunset spot for cold evenings is the bar area alongside the windows, but, as soon as things heat up, head to their outside terrace. Views for days!

5. The London Eye

We couldn’t miss this one out. It’s undeniable, The London Eye offers completely uninterrupted, 360° views of the Thames, so it’s well worth a mention for sunset. Just make sure you check the sunset timings for a picture perfect moment at the top!

6. The Oxo Tower

Offering stunning views from the Southbank, the OXO Tower Restaurant is well worth booking for an evening meal. The OXO Restaurant boasts an open-plan kitchen and a menu filled with mouthwatering British classics. The perfect place to enjoy the sunset in leather-clad comfort!
