There are two little words, guaranteed to spark rage inside even the calmest of Londoners. Those two words, I hear you ask? Train. Delays. *Shudders at the very thought*.
Well, the UK’s worst train stations for delays have officially been revealed, and (to literally no-one’s surprise) the very worst of them all is right here in the capital city.
In a study conducted by ePowerTrucks; the 100 busiest stations in the UK were put under the microscope. The study looked at the number of delayed, disrupted or completely cancelled services over the past six months to reveal the top 20 (or the bottom 20, depending if your glass is full or empty). And of those 20; 10 of them are in London. Isn’t that just brilliant?
Taking the number one spot, though, is City Thameslink. Nestled between Blackfriars and Farringdon, this central London station has had a complete and utter ‘mare in the delays department over the past six months.
Situated near St Paul’s and connected to many popular commuter towns such as St Albans and Stevenage; City Thameslink sees roughly 17,648 people pass through it everyday. Of the 69,120 services that ran through the station in the past six months; a whopping 76% of them have been delated or cancelled. Yes, that’s right: less than a quarter of them actually managed to run as scheduled.
Leicester came in second, with 68% of its 38,604 services being disrupted. Two south London spots came in joint third, with East Croydon and Earlsfield both experiencing disruptions to 67% of their services.
