In less than two weeks time, we’ll finally be able to celebrate the Women Of The World Festival at the Southbank. Dubbed the world’s “biggest, most comprehensive festival celebrating women”, the event (like many others) has endured a rocky two years during the pandemic.
But, this year, on top of their online space which has been held in recent years, the festival will be back for a three-day roster of performances and workshops from speakers, activists, musicians, comedians and many more.
The festival kicks off online from March 6, offering a series of sessions on numerous topics — from an “Under-10s Digital Feminist Corner” to a session on Grandmotherhood to a talk on joy, resilience and strength taking place on International Women’s Day (Tuesday, March 8).
Then, from March 11-13, the festival opens up in person, with three days of performances covering a multitude of topics including sex, politics, identity, race, divorce, childlessness, career changes, and much more.
Across the weekend, you’ll find a stack of performances that take you from the thought-provoking and harrowing talks to the hilarious stand-up sets. Check out the full lineup that includes appearances from – *deep breath* – Patrisse Cullors, Bridget Christie, Angela Davis, Elizabeth Day,Jude Kelly, Candice Brathwaite, Bernardine Evaristo, Deborah Frances-White, Natalie Haynes, Marian Keyes, Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan, Warsan Shire, Pandora Sykes, Lisa Taddeo and Grace Victory.
WOW was founded by Jude Kelly in 2010, in the year that the first event took place at the Southbank. Now, the festival reaches millions across the globe and supports their desire “to build, convene and sustain a global movement that believes a gender equal world is desirable, possible and urgently required”.
