Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside – especially when it hasn’t cost me an arm and a leg to get there. And so it’s pretty darn convenient for me, my bank balance, and my annual leave allowance that the lovely lot over at student accommodation prover, Chapter, have recently revealed the most budget-friendly beaches near London.
They analysed a whole host of scenic seaside spots within three hours of the capital city to reveal the most cheap-and-cheerful of all. Leaving no bucket or spade unturned; they took into account factors including travel time, beach rating, water quality, average temperatures, and transport costs to dish out an overall ‘beach day score’ to each coastal location. The top 10 best-value beaches were then revealed – and the top spot was nabbed by a picture-perfect pocket of Kent.

Whitstable Tankerton Beach
Whitstable’s Tankerton Beach topped the charts as the most cost-effective coastal spot for a day trip from the Big Smoke. With an impressive overall beach day score of 8.77, south-east England’s Tankerton Beach boasts ‘excellent’ water quality and average summer temperatures of 17-degrees. A train from London to Whitsable costs less than £25 and takes under 2 hours – making for a pretty dreamy day trip. With picture-perfect colourful beach huts, gorgeous walking routes, and some darn dalicious seasfood restaurants nearby; I think I know exactly where I’ll be heading during the upcoming heatwave.
