An exhibition of dynamic and pleasure-inducing sculptures has arrived at Southbank Centre’s Hayward Gallery. ‘When Forms Come Alive’ spans across 60 years of contemporary art; highlighting the ways in which artists draw on familiar experiences of movement and growth to create work that will invigorate and intrigue its viewers.
Featuring work from 21 international artists; the gallery space will be filled with energetic sculptural forms that seem to ooze, ripple, droop, wobble and cascade, surprising visitors at every turn.
With an aim to trigger physical responses and evoke the pleasure of spontaneous movement; the pieces are inspired from the likes of molten metal, breaking waves and spider webs and will engage viewers in a playful and unique way.
Ralph Rugoff, Director of the Hayward Gallery, said: “Dynamic, exuberant and playful, the works in this show take visitors on an adventure into a world of fascinating forms. Whilst they avoid directly representing the human body, most of these artworks evince a compelling corporeality – they remind us that there is a comedy, as well as a politics, of form.”
Bold, bizarre and truly brilliant; ‘When Forms Come Alive‘ is well worth visiting in all its gorgeously gooey glory.
‘When Forms Come Alive’ will be running at the Hayward Gallery until May 6, 2024. Find out more about the exhibition and plan your visit here.
