How’s this for a lovely spot for dinner?
From Friday, December 6, south London’s Brockwell Lido café will be serving up a ravishing Christmas dinner from a menu devised by head chef Lily Ferguson-Mahan.
There’ll be starters like confit duck, apple jelly and sourdough, while mains range from slow-roasted pork belly with crackling and medlar jam, to whole roast acorn squash with whipped maple sweet potato stuffing, and roast free-range Suffolk guinea fowl in garlic and herb butter.
Desserts include ginger sticky toffee pudding with pumpkin ice cream, and pecan pie with brandy crème fraiche, and a ginger and quince martini will be yours on arrival. The art-deco venue promises to be cosy and candlelit for Christmas, and the menu (£35 for four courses) is available until December 22nd.
If you want to work up an appetite, the lido itself is still open in the winter months, but as it’s totally unheated, so you’ll want to bring either a wetsuit or a sterling constitution. Still, you’ll definitely feel like you’ve earned your supper afterwards. (I’ll be on the side with martini shouting words of encouragement.)
