What can you expect at Jeff Wayne’s The War of The Worlds: The Immersive Experience?
Wear comfy shoes and scrub up on your survival skills – or don’t, thanks to the expert character actor guides, you’ll be fine either way. The experience whisks you back to 1898, Victorian England, with 24 interactive scenes over an hour and 50 minutes. You’ll be plunged into the panic and chaos of a Martian invasion; taking you from the first foreboding signs of eerie green gas spied through a telescope, to finding shelter in a Victorian house and fleeing down the claw of a Martian Handling Machine. Along the way, you’ll encounter all sorts of characters who will help you make it out of these troublesome times alive and in one piece – well, just about.
The adventure is brought to life through a unique mix of technology, music and theatrics. With virtual reality, augmented reality and holograms plunging you into new worlds in a heartbeat – one where you’ll see 300-foot Martian Fighting Machines do what Guy Fawkes failed to do and lay waste to Parliament in a spectacle of explosions. Alongside them, multisensory effects place you right inside the action – think pyrotechnics, vibrations, weather simulation – while the live actors and artfully authentic sets tie everything up in a nice, unearthly green bow. Where else can you fly to Mars in a hot air balloon?!
Of course, you can also expect to be blown away by the music. If you hadn’t already guessed from the title, the tale you’re living out follows one of the biggest-selling records of all time: Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds. With tracks such as ‘The Eve of the War’ and ‘Forever Autumn’ injecting an extra dash of drama, atmosphere and tension into your experience.
All this fighting for survival can be thirsty work. Luckily, there are two watering holes at the experience where you can fuel up: The Spirit of Man bar and restaurant or The Red Weed Bar. Just keep in mind, that the latter is only available for those in the midst of fleeing the invasion. Pick your poison from otherworldly themed concoctions and all the classic bar bevvies, while tucking into tasty classics like pizza and burgers.
